New commanders take the reins

17 TRSS new commander takes charge of squadron 

A change-of-command ceremony for the 17th Training Support Squadron took place Wednesday at the Goodfellow Event Center.

In the brief military ceremony Lt. Col. Robert Ehlers relinquished command of the squadron to Lt. Col. Georgette Young.

Lieutenant Colonel Ehlers will remain at Goodfellow, transferring to his new position as the deputy commander of the 17th Training Group.

Lieutenant Colonel Young comes from Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, where she served as the chief of the Intelligence Operations Division, Directorate of Intelligence for the 13th Air Force.

There Lt. Col. Young supervised 29 airmen and civilians supporting Intelligence operations and all Pacific Air Forces Intel analysis.

Lieutenant Colonel Young has served in a variety of Intel assignments across the United States and throughout the Pacific. She has served in both operational and staff tours, featuring extensive Distributed Common Ground System and Air and Space Operations Center experience.

Lieutenant Colonel Young's first assignment was in the 3486th Student Squadron here at Goodfellow Air Force Base from October 1989 to May 1990.

Lieutenant Colonel Young's previous assignments also include the position of assistant director of operations for the 30th Intelligence Squadron at Langley Air Force Base, Va.
Lieutenant Colonel Young was commissioned as a second lieutenant after graduating from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and ROTC program in May 1989.

Lieutenant Colonel Young earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages and Supplemental in Chicano Studies from New Mexico State three years earlier.

She also earned a Master of Arts degree in Spanish from New Mexico State in 1988.
Lieutenant Colonel Young's military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

17 CONS holds change-of-command ceremony

A change-of-command ceremony for the 17th Contracting Squadron took place Wednesday at the Goodfellow Event Center.

In the brief military ceremony Maj. Louis Orndorff relinquished command of the squadron to Maj. Michael Hulin.

Major Orndorff's new assignment will be as a student at the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

Major Hulin comes to Goodfellow after serving as the Command Contracting Inspector for Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
At Wright-Patterson, Major Hulin led the Inspector General Contracting Inspection Team in conducting Operational Readiness Inspections and Unit Compliance Inspections.

There, he directed oversight of all Air Force IG Special Interest Items to ensure quality feedback was provided to the AFMC commander and evaluated the status of specific programs at AFMC bases.

Prior to his assignment at Wright-Patterson, Maj. Hulin served as Iraqi Military Coalition Contracting Team Chief, in Baghdad, Iraq, from January through May 2006.
Major Hulin was commissioned in 1992 through the Air Force ROTC program at the University of New Mexico where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Seven years later, Maj. Hulin earned a Master of Business Administration degree, IT Systems from Western International University in Phoenix.

Major Hulin's military awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with valor and two oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with two oak leaf clusters.

17 MSS gets new commander

A change-of-command ceremony for the 17th Mission Support Squadron took place Monday at the Goodfellow Event Center.

Colonel Ada Conlan, 17th Mission Support Group commander, presided over the ceremony in which Maj. Michael Gayer relinquished command of the squadron to Maj. Clint Ross.

Major Gayer leaves for his next assignment at the Intelligence and Strategic Reconnaissance Agency at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He will serve as the chief of the Senior Officer Matters Division.

Major Ross was previously assigned as a student at Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Ala.

Prior to attending ACSC, the new 17 MSS commander served on a six-month deployment to Iraq.

There he served as the chief of staff to the deputy commanding general, Coalition Military Assistance Training Team, Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq. He also served as an advisor to an Iraqi major general, charged with rebuilding the Iraqi Army, Navy and Air Forces.

Major Ross graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Engineering.

He holds two masters degrees, the first of which is a Masters of Science degree in Operational Management from the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas in 1999; the second a Masters of Military Operational Art and Science degree from the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB.

Major Ross's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Iraqi Campaign Medal.
