The Goodfellow Fire Department's annual Junior Firefighter camp was July 16 through today at the base fire station. The camp is a mentorship program offered to kids ages 10-13 years old to educate them on fire safety and prevention and also to give them a chance to see if firefighting would be a future career choice.

Activities included how to properly use a fire extinguisher, how to safely climb up and down a ladder, fire hose evolutions and training on specialized rescue tools and equipment including the jaws of life.

Healthy snacks were provided to the children by the base commissary.
Many of the kids enjoyed their time at the camp and when asked to describe their experience they replied, "fun, great, good, wonderful and exciting."

"I think it's been a very positive experience for everyone," said Chief Richard Alter, GFD assistant fire chief. "It's been a great experience for us being able to mentor and guide them in positive ways."
