Thirty-six Goodfellow members volunteered to help make San Angelo, Texas a little cleaner and prettier Saturday. The event was one of several clean-up projects part of the Keep San Angelo Beautiful program headed by retired Chief Master Sgt. Tom Nurre. The program is designed to instill a sense of pride and create a positive community spirit among the San Angelo residents through volunteer clean-up and beautification projects.

Master Sgt. Christopher Hernandez, primary KSAB point of contact for Goodfellow helped coordinate the last clean-up project. Volunteers cleaned, scraped, lifted, loaded and unloaded more than 19,300 pounds of rubbish from six houses of elderly or disabled around San Angelo. The project took about six hours. Clean up projects like this one have creative experiences and drawn positive reactions from its volunteers.

"I love to help. There's nothing better than coming together to lend a helping hand. The feeling I get for helping these people in need, is unexplainable, I would give a few or however many hours of my time any day," said Senior Airman Diana Klesel about volunteering.

Her sentiment was shared by Airman Nicole Strain, one of the technical school students from the 315th Training Squadron, who volunteer to help in the clean-up project.

"Projects like these are a great way to give back to the San Angelo community," Airman Strain said. "It also is a great way to meet new people and help others out. I would definitely encourage students to take part in events like this," she added.
