The legacy continues – Air Force team wins 2006 Captain’s Cup Published Feb. 8, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Donna Williams 313th Training Squadron CORRY STATION, Fla. -- The U.S. Air Force 313th Training Squadron at the Center for Information Dominance won the 2006 Corry Station Captain's Cup, receiving the trophy Jan. 19 for the fourth time in six years. The 313th's sports representative, Tech. Sgt. Eddie Carnley, said the win felt great, especially since his team was one of the smaller ones in the competition. "It's a magnificent mark of diligence, courage and pride that we were able to triumph in this base-wide multi-service event," Carnley said. "I'm really proud of both the Air Force staff and student participants who were selfless in devoting their time and energy to help us claim overall victory, again." The Captain's Cup is an annual contest consisting of 16 sporting events in which eight divisions compete. These teams include Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy teams from onboard Corry Station, as well as Saufley Field and the Naval Hospital Pensacola. Dorothy Player, acting athletic director at Corry Station, presented the 4 1/2-foot tall trophy during a squadron formation. She explained that this year's Captain's Cup race was one the tightest ever, with only a 2.5 point difference between the top team and second place. She attributed this fervor to the proactive nature of all the sporting coordinators getting and keeping their people involved. "The Air Force team put forth a terrific effort," stated Player. "They were rewarded by taking home first prize in four events to include: pool, darts, bowling and racquetball." The squadron's commander, Maj. Hal Brown, said he was very proud of his team. "This victory is a testament to the motivation and dedication of all Airmen - the students and staff - onboard Corry Station," Brown said. "The Navy has provided us a superb competitive forum, and we are pleased to compete alongside our joint partners." Any team winning the Captain's Cup for three consecutive years gets to retain their trophy permanently. With two consecutive wins, the 313 TRS commander is looking for that honor. "You can go ahead and schedule this date for next year," Brown told Player as she presented the trophy to his winning team.
