April raises awareness for several causes Published March 31, 2015 By Senior Airman Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Col. Kimberlee P. Joos, 17th Training Wing Commander, signed an April 2015 Joint Proclamation identifying April as month for several awareness issues in the Norma Brown Building March 26. April marks the start of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Month of the Military Child, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Alcohol Awareness Month. Part of the joint proclamation reads, "Every military service member and family member, from our children to our leaders, is entitled to a culture of safety, security, and support. It is our individual chance to make responsible choices that impact our community beginning with respect for our children, ourselves, and one another." Several base agencies host events during the month. These events include: the Sexual Assault and Response Coordinator Challenge April 18 and Month of the Military Child "What's Your Story" event April 25, which aim to raise awareness for SAPR and the life of military children. "It's important to educate people on sexual assault, because sexual assault is an issue we have in the Air Force, but it is something we need everyone to own," said Donna L. Casey, 17th Training Wing SARC. "It takes everyone working together, intervening, doing the right thing for us to get at the problem." For more information on SAPR events, call 325-654-1570.
