The Taylor Chapel welcomed Team Goodfellow and the local community for a couple hours of prayer and food, during the National Prayer Luncheon at the chapel Feb. 20.

The event included Muslim, Jewish and Christian sacred readings as well as prayers for the deployed, their families and the nation.

"We thank you dear lord for our wonderful nation and the freedoms we are guaranteed by law, realizing that many of the freedoms we take for granted are freedoms most of the world simply dream about," said Dwain Morrison, San Angelo Mayor. "We are thankful father, this morning, for the freedom of speech, for the freedom of religion, for the freedom of assembly that allows us to gather here today."

Once the sacred readings and prayers finished, Congressman Mike Conaway, 11th District of Texas, took the floor as the guest speaker.

"Our nation faces an awful lot of threats today and we've always faced threats," he said. "Thank you for those of you in uniform and those of you who've been in uniform for the willingness to take on direct, or any kinds of threats."

After Conaway's speech, the attendees met in the Fellowship Hall for lunch and a chance to discuss the prayers and speeches.

Goodfellow hosts the event every year in conjunction with San Angelo's National Prayer Breakfast. The base held event is used to honor the nation, its leaders and its military members.
