International Military Student Officers training at Goodfellow Air Force Base taught local high school students about their home countries and cultures at Lake View High School March 9.

The officers presented slideshows to the students, giving them the basics of where they are from and what their culture is like.

"It's a pleasure for me to share my country's information and culture," said Bahraini 1st Lt. Jasim Alamir, IMSO student. "I want them to know that there isn't much difference between here and there and if they go there they will enjoy their time. It's good to give information, especially with what is happening in the world so people are not misunderstanding what is going on with the Arabian countries."

The event also provided an opportunity for the students to further their learning about other countries and cultures through getting to know the officers themselves, asking them personal questions about their life and experiences.

"It's an interesting opportunity for the kids, because most of them haven't met anyone from outside of our continent," said Cynthia Willy, Lake View High School geography teacher. "I'd like them to see that people from all over the world have a lot of similarities and that the differences are fascinating."

At the end of the presentations, the same students talked to the officers one-on-one and posed for pictures. For lunch, the officers ate with the school's JROTC detachment where they gave the students patches of their units.
