February Walk in My Boots Published Feb. 23, 2015 By Senior Airman Scott Jackson 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- This month's Walk in My Boots took place in the Consolidated Learning Center, where an Airman shared a story about her deployments to an audience Feb. 17. Walk in My Boots is a story telling event where Airmen share their story to inspire and mentor others through their personal experiences. "A lot of Airmen have stories to share, and this is a great way to get it out," said Master Sgt. Charles T. Knight, 17th Training Wing Base Operations superintendent. This month's storyteller was Staff Sgt. Christina M. Cordova, 17th Training Wing Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Office manager, talking about her past deployments and the effects on her daily life. "To have been in a combat zone twice, to include outside the wire and in air missions, is a rare story; especially being a communications AFSC [Air Force Specialty Code]," said Cordova. "But the aftermath, the struggle to adjust to life back home and reconnect, the stressors. I believe it is a story that needs to be told. I wanted to share a life experience that has forever changed me to my core." Cordova reflected on her story afterwards, saying venting doesn't necessarily help, but it brings back thoughts and images from the deployments. Remembering those she served with outweighs the bad by reminding her that she is not alone. "I want people who listened to my story to feel something," she said. "Maybe that's an appreciation for life; maybe a fresh set of eyes on those returning home from combat zones; maybe even a desire to hear other combat vet's stories. Also for those listening, who have been in combat zones too, I hope they take away inspiration to come forward and share their story. My story is unique...but one of many combat stories out there." Walk in My Boots opened for the Air Force Sergeant Association, giving the event more exposure. "This was our largest attendance so far and hopefully we can continue to build the event up," said Knight. "We want people to hear these stories and the presenters enjoy providing their own personal experiences." Members of all branches and all ranks are highly encouraged to attend Walk in My Boots.
