The Airman and Family Readiness Center is looking for Family Child Care providers to offer alternative options for parents seeking child care.

There is an orientation scheduled, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 7 to 9. Orientations are offered once a quarter.

The FCC program offers active duty and retired military affiliated spouses living on and off base the opportunity to provide child care services to military families and Department of Defense civilians.

Advantages to being an FCC provider:
· Manage your own business
· Set your own hours and fees
· Check out items free of charge at the FCC Resource Center
· Free training
· Professional Development

Licensing Requirements:
· Must be 18 years old
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Complete a family interview and background check
· Complete 24 to 36 hours of orientation training including first aid and CPR
· Fulfill continuing training requirements

Any individuals caring for other families' children a total of 10 or more hours a week, on a regular basis in base housing, must be licensed to provide child care.

A benefit to using the program is the adult to child ratio.

"The FCC providers can provide a 'homelike' atmosphere since they only provide care to six children with only two of those children under the age of 2," said Sally Fuller, 17th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Services Flight Chief.

Another benefit of the FCC homes is the flexibility of hours.

"FCC homes can include nights, weekends and extended hours," said Larcenie Mines, Training and Curriculum Specialist and Acting FCC Coordinator.
