Chief Master Sergeant Roger A. Towberman, 25th Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant, visited Goodfellow Dec. 10, spending the day with the intelligence schools' staff and students.

He started his morning eating breakfast with 316th Training Squadron linguists.

Over breakfast, they discussed the challenges of being a linguist in today's Air Force as well as life as a student at Goodfellow.

"As a future airborne linguist, it was very motivating to hear from someone with such an interesting Air Force career," said Airman 1st Class Karyn E. Carey, 316th TRS student.

Towberman spent the rest of the morning at the 316th TRS visiting with staff, faculty and students.

During his visit, he met with a class of soon-to-be Iraqi linguists and also talked with the network intelligence analysts, communications signals operators and airborne sensor operators. He shared stories with them from his own career and offered advice to the newest intelligence experts in the Air Force.

Towberman ate lunch with 316th TRS instructors. Together, they discussed the challenges and joys of being a career language analyst and how to better lead new linguists.

After lunch, he traveled to the 315th Training Squadron where he toured the newest technologies used to teach the Air Force's soon-to-be geospatial and operations intelligence as well as intelligence officers.

Towberman finished his tour of the schools with a stop at the 312th Training Squadron's Special Instruments Training Flight where Chief shared some advice with the students.

Afterward, he went to the student dorms and Crossroads Student Center, where he and Chaplain (Capt.) James M. Henry, 17th Training Wing, discussed the best ways to help prior-enlisted students mentor the newest Air Force members.

Towberman finished his day with an all call for over 200 students from all the intelligence courses.

"Getting the opportunity to meet Command Chief Master Sergeant Towberman was a wonderful experience," said Airman Courtney Branton, 316th TRS student. "It was very uplifting to talk to someone whose reasons for enlisting were so similar to my own, and now he's one of the highest in the chain of command. Very inspiring story to listen to, and very motivational."
