Chief Master Sgt. Thomas F. Good, 17th Training Wing Command Chief, spoke during a naturalization ceremony at O. C. Fisher Federal Building where 37 applicants became U.S. citizens Dec. 3.

Good, who hails from Scotland and is a naturalized citizen, said he felt honored to be chosen as the speaker for the ceremony that included applicants from Canada, China, Cuba, Jordan, Nepal and Mexico.

"It is humbling beyond words," he said. "I remember the pride of becoming a citizen 21 years ago, and never thought that day could be surpassed.  However, being part of final footsteps in the journey of others is truly inspiring."

Good offered words of advice to the new citizens.

"Becoming a U.S. citizen equals freedom; the opportunity to seize and make every day count," said Good. "Do not follow your dream but capture your dreams. Never forget where you came from and embrace your heritage as an American citizen. Invent, inspire and improve; your altitude is matched by your attitude."

Before handing out certificates, E. Scott Frost, U.S. District Court for the Northern Division of Texas magistrate judge, congratulated the new citizens and shared his thoughts on their new lives as U.S. citizens.

"Citizenship comes with rights and responsibilities," Frost said. "These must be exercised to ensure that all of us ... enjoy the privileges of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
