Goodfellow leadership will be handing out wingman cards at the North and Jacobson Gates as they head home for the holiday 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 26, encouraging safety and smart decision making.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, DPS troopers arrested 386 individuals for driving while intoxicated, issued more than 7,500 speeding citations, and issued more than 770 seat belt and child safety seat citations during Thanksgiving weekend in 2012.

"The gate send-off is an opportunity to remind everyone to have a good time over the weekend while staying safe," said Samuel L. Spooner, 17th Training Wing Safety chief. "We asked for commanders, first sergeants, chiefs and our Green Knights Chapter 64 Motorcycle Group to man the gates to ensure members keep their focus on safety and risk management during the extended four-day weekend."

The wingman cards contain important organization numbers such as Airmen Against Drunk Driving, local cab services, 17th Security Forces Squadron, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator hotline and more.

"Drive very defensively," added Spooner. "Do not drink and drive, and avoid texting or cell phone use while on the road."
