The Top 3 scholarship committee awarded two Airmen the Lt. Col Andy "Dixie" Cupp Scholarship toward their continued education at the Event Center Sept. 5.

Staff Sgt. Kara S. Zemlock, 17th Training Group Student Transitions student out processing NCO in charge, and Senior Airman Heather L. Cortez, 17th Security Forces Squadron patrolman, each received $500 after winning an essay contest.

"I'm pretty excited, ecstatic and pretty astonished that I actually won," said Zemlock. "I want to encourage everyone to seek a higher education and watch out for opportunities like this from Top 3. It's well worth the try; if nothing else, it's practice writing an essay."

The Top 3 created the committee to help Airmen obtain a higher education, a topic leadership continuously stresses.

"We are creating smarter Airmen who are more educated and can better complete their jobs," said Master Sgt. Andrew B. Jones, 17th Training Support Squadron Training Systems Support flight chief. "I believe education is the foundation for everything we do."

The Top 3 provide scholarships twice a year.
