Brig. Gen. Mark A. Brown, Second Air Force Commander, and Chief Master Sgt. David R. Staton, Second Air Force Command Chief, visited Goodfellow Aug. 20 to 22.

During the visit, General Brown toured several facilities meeting many Airmen and recognizing some of the best.

"It was a huge honor to be recognized by my peers and receive the coin from General Brown," said Airman 1st Class Darrin T. Davis, 17th Contracting Squadron contract specialist. "I was really nervous standing next to him while he was talking to me, and of course when I received the coin, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't that person who dropped it. It was definitely something I won't forget in my early Air Force career."

The Second Air Force Commander reached out to Goodfellow members at a commander's call where he shared his beliefs on leadership. Topics ranged from measuring what gets done to physical fitness. He shared life lessons from his Air Force career, calling them "Brown's Bag."

"Whatever position you happen to be in, your goal ought to be to make it better than you found it," said the Second Air Force Commander. "When you leave, leave the position with all the honor that you found it with."

General Brown emphasized the importance of looking for answers in the right places regardless of pay grades, and explained rank does not equal knowledge, but leaders should trust the people who are entrusted with being experts at different levels.

The Numbered Air Force Commander concluded the enlisted call with an inspirational story about optimism and the positive outcome that comes with it.

"That's the job that leaders have...," he added. "You go build and help us build the Air Force that you wanted to be in; the Air Force that you joined; the one that you stood on the parade grounds and agreed to be in; the one that you talk about when you say the core values and the Airman's Creed."
