Gen. Robin Rand, commander of Air Education and Training Command, and Chief Master Sgt. Gerardo Tapia Jr., AETC command chief master sergeant, visited Goodfellow, July 10 and 11.

Gen. Rand toured the 312th Training Squadron, the 315th Training Squadron and the 316th Training Squadron as well as the Ross Clinic and Crossroads Student Center, meeting with some of Goodfellow's best Airmen.

"It felt unbelievable," said Tech. Sgt. Christopher M. Davis, 17th Medical Group Dental Laboratory NCO in charge, after Gen. Rand awarded him with a coin. "I never met a four star general before, so it was a surreal feeling to be coined."

Gen. Rand used part of his visit to speak with Goodfellow members at commander's calls. One of the topics that came up was the importance of the 17th Training Wing's mission and working with students.

"The impact you make on our Air Force is phenomenal," said Gen. Rand. "I thank you for making us the greatest Air Force in the world."

"At Goodfellow we train Airmen," said Gen. Rand. "The future of the Air Force depends on the Airmen we train today."

During his tour of the 312th TRS, Gen. Rand presented Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey A. Trueman, 312th Training Squadron instructor, with the Recruiter of the Year Award.

"It was pretty special that Gen. Rand took the time out of his busy schedule," said Trueman. "The most rewarding thing was giving people the opportunity to come into the Air Force, but to be recognized for what I did is just the capstone to everything. It really meant a lot for all the hard work I did."

Gen. Rand finished his tour with a visit to the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance training facilities on base.
