Competing for a cause Published July 9, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Breonna Veal 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Students from the 315th Training Squadron collectively donated more than 1,000 items to the Children's Advocacy Center of Tom Green County July 1. Airman 1st Class Hermadi Modi, Students Against Sexual Harassment member and CAC liaison, spearheaded this donation project through a friendly competition between the six flights, in which the winners received a day off of physical training. "We started a competition between the six formations of the 315th TRS," said Modi. "I worked with the military training leaders to get all of the flights involved in donating to the CAC." Modi said there was a box which sat at the Charge of Quarters desk in the 315th TRS dormitory that didn't get much attention. Although many Airmen walked past this donation box, not many donated. To raise awareness on the CAC's needs, Modi put her plan for the competition in motion. The 315th TRS students donated more than 1,000 items to the advocacy center because of their competiveness and willingness to give to children in need. Leann Hubert, CAC marketing services director, believes this generous donation will help many children. "Although we get donations often, we don't get contributions as large as the Airmen brought today," said Hubert. "Some of the children that are brought here are either removed from their home in the middle of night or transported here without any personal items, toys or clothes in their possession." Hubert said Team Goodfellow's involvement plays a large role in the donations made to the advocacy center which include brand new clothes, pajamas and suitcases. "We cannot do what we do for the children that we serve without generous supporters and donors," added Hubert. "The individuals from Goodfellow make a huge impact on the services that we can provide. We are very grateful." To make donations to CAC of Tom Green County, visit their donations page at http://www.cactomgreen.org/donate.php.
