Charles R. Rehburg, 17th Training Wing program manager, resource advisor and historic property custodian; and Dr. John V. Garrett, 17th TRW historian, won the 2014 Air Force Heritage Award in May.

The award recognizes outstanding achievements by Air Force History and Museums personnel that foster a better understanding and appreciation of Air Force history and accomplishments.

The two individuals were recognized for designing and assembling the exhibit titled Goodfellow Flying Training and Medal of Honor located in the Norma Brown Building.

"Prior to this exhibit, any historical artifacts we just happened to have we would put on display, so there was really no logic to it, so what we were thinking was to tell some of Goodfellow's stories through this exhibit," explained Garrett.

For Rehburg, putting together the displays was well worth the work.

"It was quite an honor to get the AETC award, and then, when you're told you received the Air Force award, the hard work really pays off," said Rehburg.

Garrett's and Rehburg's cost-conscious efforts resulted in huge financial savings.

"We actually found the display cases that we're using down at AETC, and it saved us somewhere around $30,000 or $40,000," said Rehburg.

Rehburg and Garrett also coordinated the static aircraft displays across the base.

"Any time someone goes through those gates, they see something that I and Dr. Garrett have done, and a lot of folks don't have that privilege," added Rehburg.
