National Drug Take Back Day set for April 26 Published April 16, 2014 17th Medical Support Squadron GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place at the Exchange entrance. The Drug Enforcement Agency nationally sponsors this event with the 17th Security Forces Squadron and the 17th Medical Group sponsoring it locally. The goal of Drug Take Back Day is to provide safe, convenient and responsible means of medication disposal, while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications. Approximately 70 percent of children who abuse prescription drugs get them from friends or family. More than 5,683 locations manned by 4,114 state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies collected 647,211 pounds, or 324 tons of prescription medications from members of the public in October. The DEA's previous seven take back events have removed more than 3.4 million pounds or 1,733 tons of prescription medications from circulation. Bring all unwanted or expired medications to this year's event to dispose of them safely. All drug take back will be done anonymously, so feel free to bring in medications without hesitation. For questions or concerns, contact Capt. Jin Kim at 325-654-3101 or Senior Airman Mark Riley at 325-654-3504.
