AFAF ends at Goodfellow Published April 17, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Breonna Veal 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign came to an end here April 11 after beginning March 3. "The Air Force Assistance Fund is a 6 week fundraising drive in which funds go specifically to our Air Force Members and their families," said Capt. Heather Brooks, 17th Medical Group dentist and AFAF base point of contact. The donations from the AFAF assist various charities and programs across the Air Force. "Some of the proceeds go to the Air Force Aid Society, which helps military members with emergency loans, scholarships, Permanent Change of Station Child Care, Spouse Employment Program and much more," said Neil Townley, 17th Training Wing safety representative and an AFAF point of contact. Other programs include the Air Force Villages, Inc., the Air Force Enlisted Village, Inc. and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation. Goodfellow achieved their goal of 100 percent contact and rose over $15,000. The 315th Training Squadron also held a pie in the face contest in which service members donated money to place pies in the faces of supervisors, unit and group leaders. "The AFAF drive was more difficult this year due to force shaping," said Brooks. "Many Airmen of various AFSC's are being affected by the current and impending cuts and are uncertain of whether or not they will still have a career in the AF next year. Thus, many are choosing not to contribute and instead save their money for their own uncertain future." For more information on the AFAF or to donate, visit www.afassistancefund.org/.
