McFarlane 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Navy Center for Information Dominance Detachment here received the Annual Retention Excellence Award from Navy Adm. Bill Gortney U.S. Fleet Forces Command Commander, Norfolk, Va. The Annual Retention Excellence Award recognizes superior accomplishments in executing programs and policies that best enable Sailors to succeed in naval careers. "To the unit, it means that all their hard work paid off," said Master Chief Petty Officer Shannon R. Day, Navy-CID senior enlisted advisor. "By the Career Counselor Team paying due diligence to a myriad of career milestone hurdles and still finding the balance [that is] best for the Navy and best for the Sailors, it validates their quality of work and dedication to the careers of our Sailors." To qualify for the award, commands must meet 100 percent on time reenlistment submissions, 100 percent apprenticeship program qualifications, 100 percent completion of Navy Leadership Development Program, all Sailors with the required time in rate are eligible to take the advancement test and 85 percent or higher in a command's program inspection. "To me, it means we continue to focus on the retention of quality maritime warriors," Day continued. Ships earning the prestigious Retention Excellence Award can paint their anchor gold to signify this achievement and may keep it gold as long as they maintain the award. "This award is the result of a collaborative effort," said Chief Petty Officer Cory M. Hays, Navy-CID cryptologic technician. "The command, as a whole, is responsible for providing the kind of environment that keeps good Sailors in the Navy. We are all very proud to receive this award."
