Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas senator, visited here March 20, to tour the 17th Training Wing, learn about the wing's mission and the people of Team Goodfellow.

Cruz assumed office in 2013, after serving as the Solicitor General of Texas for five years. He also sits as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

During his time on Goodfellow, Sen. Cruz visited the Louis F. Garland DOD Fire Academy and 315th Training Squadron as well as the 316th Training Squadron to learn about the mission of the 17th TRW from its own instructors.

"I briefed Cruz on the training that a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst goes through," said Tech. Sgt. Michael Phelps, 315th TRS Instructor. "I used one of our exercise training blocks for talking points."

The senator also had the chance to stop by the 316th TRS and talk to a couple of linguists.

"It was exciting to have the opportunity to talk to Cruz," said Staff Sgt. Louis Sutton, 316th TRS instructor. "Though briefings are commonplace in the Air Force, it's not too often that one is given the chance to brief a senator."

"It's important for the senator to see the quality of the training conducted at Goodfellow," said Sutton. "He is a senator from Texas and also sits as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the decisions that he and the committee make directly affect our lives as members of the Department of Defense."

Cruz ended his tour by thanking the members of Team Goodfellow for their service and hospitality.
