Governor raises awareness of severe weather Published March 5, 2014 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry proclaimed March 2 to 8 as Severe Weather Awareness Week to help educate residents about the dangers of severe weather in Texas. Texas weather can change drastically in a short time, some of the dangers that Texas residents face are severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash flooding and lightning. According to a press release by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a couple of life saving safety rules to keep in mind are having a reliable source for receiving warnings from the National Weather Service and knowing what to do in the event of severe weather.
