Team Goodfellow members and San Angelo leaders came together for faith, fellowship and food during the National Prayer Luncheon at the Taylor Chapel here Feb. 14.

The luncheon featured prayers from base leaders and gave individuals a chance for spiritual connection.

"I came to meet more people," said Airman 1st Class Nicole Morris, 315th Training Squadron student. "Due to Airman leadership responsibilities that take priority, I can't always come here. When I do come here, I enjoy it."

Morris and other attendees heard prayers for the students, families and deployed service members.

Army Lt. Col. Devon Blake, Army 344th Military Intelligence Battalion Commander, gave thanks for the opportunity to gather together and prayed for those serving overseas. She prayed for deployed service members to have courage and wisdom as well as for them to become better leaders and followers.

The luncheon also featured a speech from San Angelo Mayor Dwain Morrison.

Morrison said he felt the practice of coming together as a group collectively to serve and worship was a wonderful thing. He also commented on the National Monument to the Forefathers located in Plymouth, Mass., and said that the statue is a symbol of where the nation came from and what the people owe for this gift of land and prosperity.

After Morrison finished his speech, Col. Kimberlee Joos, 17th Training Wing Commander, presented him with a plaque as a token of appreciation for speaking at the event and provided closing remarks.

"As I look at this group who has come together today, I am struck by the diversity in the crowd; different services, different hometowns, different ethnicities, different faiths, yet it is faith that also binds us together and serves as the unifying factor which brings us here today to pray for our great nation," said Joos.

The ceremony concluded with a potluck-style lunch where everyone could reflect on the speeches and discus the day's events.
