The Airman and Family Readiness Center is kicking off the Military Saves Campaign with an information fair, 9 a.m., Feb. 24, at the Event Center here.

This year, the A&FRC's goal is to get at least 300 service members pledging to start saving and watching personal spending.

"Building healthy financial habits early gets people into a behavior of saving and learning how to manage their money," said Senior Master Sgt. Hemp Lee, 316th Training Squadron first sergeant. "If they wait until later, then sometimes it's more difficult for people to save because they can have poor spending habits."

To help accomplish their goal, the A&FRC is hosting several classes on credit cards, retirement, investing and more.

"We want people to save for the future, learn how to better manage their money and learn about investing," said Sally Fuller, A&FRC services flight chief. "We are having classes for kids all the way up to adults. One of the biggest issues we see at the Airman and Family Readiness Center is people who are having problems with their finances."

One way service members can manage their finances is to set up allotments through myPay.

"You can set up allotments for charity, child support, housing and savings, and it's basically a way to automatically deduct money from your check and have it go to another account," said Airman 1st Class James Westbrook, 17th Comptroller Squadron. "It benefits them, because it's easier to use then taking it out of your check manually."
