Diamonds provide Random Acts of Kindness Published Feb. 10, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Laura R. McFarlane 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Goodfellow First Sergeants Association handed out Army and Air Force Exchange Services gift cards and cash to junior enlisted members Jan. 17 at the Base Exchange during Random Acts of Kindness. First sergeants participate in these good deeds as part of the Operation Warmheart initiative--a year-round program helping Goodfellow service members and their families. Junior enlisted members can use the gift cards at the BX, the barber shop or other AAFES affiliated entities for basic needs, but first sergeants suggested those who received cash have lunch on the FSA. "Random Acts of Kindness is an opportunity for the Goodfellow first sergeants to get out around the base and thank the junior enlisted members," said Master Sgt. Brandon Welton, 315th Training Squadron first sergeant. Goodfellow first sergeants randomly handed out $1000 in gift cards and cash. Master Sgt. Nathan Sinning, 17th Security Forces Squadron first sergeant, surprised Airman 1st Class Joseph Bowan, 312th Training Squadron student, with a $20 gift card while he was shopping. "I feel pretty great about it," said Bowan. "I'm glad I came to the BX to get a haircut." Random Acts of Kindness is an Air Force-wide initiative, and Goodfellow first sergeants accomplish their virtuous acts to lift morale of junior tier service members. "For us, it is a great opportunity to get out amongst our junior Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen, and in a special way, let them know who we are and that we are always here to support them," said Master Sgt. Christopher Norci, 17th Force Support Squadron first sergeant. Goodfellow first sergeants spread cheer at least two times a year on base. The next random act may include diamond wearers behind the counter of a base eatery.
