Team Goodfellow hosts Annual Community Appreciation Day Published Nov. 20, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Erica Rodriguez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy hosted the 5th Annual Goodfellow Community Appreciation Day and 33rd Annual Santa's Market here Nov. 16. Team Goodfellow invited the surrounding San Angelo Community to attend the free annual event which featured several demonstrations and displays provided by different units across the base to include firefighters extinguishing an aircraft fire, repelling by members from the 312th Training Squadron and displays from the 315th and 316th Training Squadrons. Along with the Community Appreciation Day, the Arts and Crafts Center hosted the Santa's Market, which featured more than 100 vendors from the local community. "Community Appreciation Day was a great outlet to share with the local community what Goodfellow is all about," said Senior Airman Julie Camacho, 17th Comptroller Squadron special actions technician and Community Appreciation Day attendee. "There were various booths set up to show the community what the students learn here at Goodfellow. This also enabled the local and Goodfellow to come together and share their arts and crafts." Children participated in the "Make and Take" arts and crafts table and could also visit with Santa Claus and get a photo with him. The event aimed at strengthening the base and community relations by informing locals of the training and mission here at Goodfellow while also providing a fun-filled day event.
