Operation Warmheart is taking donations, both monetary and food, to provide service members' families food for the holidays.

Operation Warmheart is an Air Force First Sergeant program provided at Goodfellow throughout the year to help any base personnel in need, providing more than just food for the holidays.

"When most people think of Operation Warmheart, they think of Thanksgiving and Christmas which is when we do most of our work," said Senior Master Sgt. James Baxley, 17th Medical Group first sergeant. "We have Warmheart requests for food, bills, car seats, airline tickets, daycare, etc... basically anything. We make food baskets, with the help of the Commissary, with turkey and hams and all the fixings' for both holidays for about 200 families that are nominated by their supervisors. We also give cards to the Base Exchange and Wal-Mart with their baskets at Christmas."

Last year in 2012, the first sergeants' program gave out more than $3,500 in gift cards to families.

"If you would like to help out during the holidays, stop by the commissary anytime and donate a turkey or ham or come by any Saturday between now and Dec. 19 and you will see our units out there," said Baxley.

Those who would like to help build baskets may come to the warehouse within the Commissary Nov. 26 or Dec. 19 at 7 a.m. to assist the first sergeants.
