The Goodfellow Marine Corps Detachment held their 2013 Marine Corps Ball celebrating the 238th Marine Corps birthday at the McNeese Convention Center Nov. 8.

"For 238 years, the United States Marine Corps has proudly served our great nation with unfailing valor bolstered by the enduring fortitude of our fellow Marines, our families, and our friends," said Marine Corps Gen. James Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, in his Marine Corps birthday message. "This is why each year on Nov. 10, Marines from all generations gather together, in groups large and small, to celebrate the birthday of our Corps and to reflect on the proud legacy and warrior ethos we share."

The Marine Detachment's ball began with the introduction of the official party, Marine Corps Devin Rullman, Marine Corps Detachment Commanding Officer, and guest of honor, Mr. Gene Hargraves, a Marine Corps Korean War veteran.

Rullman and Hargraves gave opening remarks, leading to the traditional cutting of the cake, where the guest of honor and the oldest and youngest attending Marine get the first slices of cake.

Dinner was served after the end of the ceremony, followed by dancing and entertainment.
