Competitors brought their vehicles from Goodfellow, San Angelo and other local cities to contend in the 15th Annual Goodfellow Air Force Base Recreation Camp Car, Boat and Motorcycle Show at the Goodfellow Rec Camp Oct. 19.

The show featured a car and truck competition broken down into year groups and then into stock or modified classes. Some participants entered the competition to see how their car stacked up against other competitor's cars, but most of the attendees came out to enjoy the day and have fun.

"I didn't come out here to win, I just come here to have fun," said Joe Nandin, car show competitor. "That keeps peace inside of you, so you don't stress yourself too much. I came to enjoy the cars, talk to people and learn from them."

Col. Thomas Schmidt, 17th Training Wing Vice Commander, and Harry Gilbert, Goodfellow Rec Camp director, both picked a single vehicle from the field of 65 to win a special trophy.

"I have the director's choice and I pick the vehicle that I like, which can be a motorcycle, boat or a car," said Gilbert. "I don't really have a particular car that I'm looking for, there are new cars I like and old ones I like. I'll just run it straight to the end and decide what one I like the best."

This year Col. Schmidt chose Les Gray's 1957 Ford Fairlane for the Commander's Choice Award and Gilbert chose Jeff Woodrow's 1954 Willys Jeep for the Director's Choice Award.
