MiCare peaks interests

MiCare, an online, secure messaging platform which allows individuals to communicate with their medical provider team, schedule appointments, check the status of a referral, check lab results, request prescription refills and browse through educational materials; all at the click of a button, is generating a great deal of interest from 17th Medical Group beneficiaries, patients, on Goodfellow and in the local San Angelo area since its arrival in June 2013.

Since the implementation of MiCare, the 17th MDG has received hundreds of non-urgent medical requests from our beneficiaries and MDG staff members have provided professional information in response to those requests. A beneficiary can leave a detailed, non-emergent message for providers any time of the day at their convenience, because MiCare allows 24/7 access.

"MiCare is the wave of the future and will make routine healthcare so much easier," said Col. Kelly Klein, 17th MDG Commander. "We're excited to offer this new tool to our beneficiaries and look forward to partnering with them to improve their medical care. The more beneficiaries that register, the more successful this program will be. I encourage all our beneficiaries to register for MiCare and give it a try."

The 17th MDG has new ways to register since the implementation. A new, electronic MiCare registration form has been created for beneficiaries who have a Common Access Card. The beneficiary fills out the form, signs it digitally and emails the form back to the 17th MDG MiCare inbox. This process makes the registration easier by eliminating the need to make an extra trip to the clinic. Beneficiaries who do not have CAC access can be registered at any of the clinic's customer service desks. Once registration is complete, patients will receive an email with their login information and a link to activate their account. If you do not receive an email to activate your account, check your "junk" or "spam" mail.

Children younger than 18 years old can be added by the parents through their MiCare account. Dependents over 18 should have their own MiCare account.
