National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place at the Exchange entrance.

This event is sponsored nationally by the Drug Enforcement Agency and locally by the 17th Security Forces Squadron and the 17th Medical Group. The goal of Drug Take-Back Day is to provide safe, convenient, and responsible means of medication disposal, while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

Approximately 70 percent of children who abuse prescription drugs get them from friends or family. In April, 742,497 pounds or 371 tons of prescription medications were collected from members of the public at more than 5,829 locations manned by 4,312 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies that partnered with DEA on the event.

DEA's previous six Take-Back events collected more than 2.8 million pounds or 1,409 tons of prescription medications, removing them from circulation. Bring all unwanted and or expired medications and dispose of them safely. All drug take-back will be done anonymously, so feel free to bring in your medications without hesitation. For questions or concerns, contact Capt. Jin Kim at 325-654-3101 or Senior Airman Mark Riley at 654-3504.
