October is Eat Better, Eat Together Month, which is an opportunity to slow down and share meals as a family.

The military lifestyle pace can encourage individuals to eat on the run, which can lead to missed opportunities for families to sit down and enjoy a meal together and build a stronger relationship. Family meal times also offer the opportunity to teach children portion control, basic cooking skills and are an opportunity to try new foods.

Here are a few tips on how to spend more time eating together:
· Plan ahead, cook extra portions and freeze until ready to use
· Keep meals simple
· Pick out recipes together
· Get children involved in the meal making process
· Commit to a set time of the day
