Goodfellow attends Sept. 11 Memorial Published Sept. 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Michael Pfeifer, San Angelo Bishop of the Diocese, presided over a prayer service at the San Angelo 9/11 memorial Sept. 11. Members from the San Angelo Police Department, Fire Department, Goodfellow and the local community came out to pay respects for those who lost their live 12 years ago. Scott Farris, San Angelo Fire Department Assistant Chief, and Jeff Fant, San Angelo Police Department Assistant Chief, shared their feelings on Sept. 11 with the community . "9/11 2001, it's not just a number, it's a date," said Fant. "It's a date that will forever live in the hearts and souls of Americans. It's date that many Americans talk about without truly knowing how significant it is." After Fant finished his speech, Farris came to the podium to give the Fireman's Prayer, assist with the ringing of a bell in honor of the fallen firefighters and to give his own speech. "Today, the men and women of the fire service are confronted with more dangerous work than ever before," said Farris. "We are forced to change our strategies and our tactics to accomplish ou task. Our methods may change, but our goals remain the same as they were in the past, to save lives and protect property, sometimes at a terrible cost. It's what we do." Following the speeches, the Peace Ambassadors of West Texas placed a wreath in the center of the 9/11 memorial and the San Angelo Police Department honor guard retired the colors marking the end of the ceremony.
