CFC kicks off Sept. 1. Published Aug. 30, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Team Goodfellow starts the world's largest annual workplace charity campaign, the Combined Federal Campaign, Sept. 1. The campaign runs through Dec. 31. CFC is one of two major donation programs the Air Force supports each year. The other is the Air Force Assistance Fund, which is usually held in the spring. The AFAF specifically supports Air Force aid programs such as the Air Force Aid Society and the Gen. and Mrs. LeMay Foundation, while CFC supports thousands of local, national and international approved non-profit charity foundations. "The main goal is to publicize the various organizations that benefit from the CFC and give people the opportunity to pledge," said Col. Dominic Bernardi, 17th Mission Support Group Commander. "Their theme this year 'Serving Our Country, Supporting Our Community' really says what the desire is of folks that live here, which is to give back to the community." Some of the CFC charities include the Global Children's Foundation, the American Urological Association Foundation, Inc or the Meals on Wheels Association of America, which is one of the local charities. Last year Goodfellow raised $151,968.51. This year's goal is to raise $140,200. "The goal is more of a tool to measure against," said Bernadi. "It helps us advertise and push the campaign but the more people donate, the better it is for the community. Our only black and white objective is to make 100 percent contact with the base population and to give them the opportunity to donate." Donations can be made as a one-time action or monthly of as little as $5 per month using a payroll deduction form, provided by CFC representatives. Contributors have the option of leaving their donations undesignated, in which case the funds will be given to organizations on an as-needed or emergency basis.
