SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The 17th Force Support Squadron hosted a ribs cooking class at the Goodfellow Recreation Camp Aug. 24, where base members came out to learn how to cook ribs and jalapeno poppers on the grill.
The 17th FSS hosted the class to give Airman and base members a chance to get out of their rooms and cook some food. During the class, participants learned how to season ribs and jalapeno poppers and how to grill them. Each of the participants had their own reasons for learning.
"I wanted to learn how to cook ribs," said Airman 1st Class Lewis Moore, 17th Training Wing office knowledge management. "It's better than sitting in my dorm playing games all day."
In addition to cooking classes, Moore took to the opportunity to kayak, one of the many other activities the Rec. Camp offers to give members a reason to get out of the house.
This was not the first Rec. Camp cooking class for some of the participants and they're anxious to see it again.
"It was my second time doing this," said Army Sgt. Yosef Wolff, 344th Military Intelligence Battalion student. "It was a great experience. If I was here longer, I'd do it again."
A running joke throughout the day was 'too much Tony.' The participants were worried that the Tony seasoning would be too much for the ribs but this turned out not to be the case.
"What we thought was too much seasoning made the flavor of the meat," said Dan Walker, 17th Force Support Squadron community services flight chief.
After the class ended, the participants left with a little more sun, some new cooking skills and if they chose, their barbecued food.
