Team Goodfellow and members of the San Angelo community came out to the Goodfellow Recreation Camp to participate in the 2013 Annual Trialthlon July 27.

The event consisted of a 400-meter open water swim in Lake Nasworthy, a 20-kilometer bicycle ride down Kinckerbocker Road and a 5-kilometer run down South Concho Drive.
Airman 1st Class Joshua Edwards, 17th Training Wing Public Affairs photojournalist, said he participated in the triathlon to see if he could complete it.

"I saw it advertised at the Mathis Fitness Center and I thought it could be challenging," said Edwards. "I wanted to know how far I could go or how fast I could complete it."

Edwards participated in squadron physical training and training on his own in effort to prepare for the triathlon.

"Some of the things I did for training were a three mile run as well as a 17-kilometer bike ride," said Edwards.

Edwards said with a time of one hour, 39 minutes, 59 seconds, he did not do as well as wanted but he plans to train harder next year.

"For me the hardest portion of the triathlon was swimming, so I need to practice swimming more," said Edwards. "Also, I will try to combine the three portions together instead of training for them separately."

After the triathlon, the first sergeants of Goodfellow Air Force Base held a burger burn for the triathletes, volunteers and spectators after which they announced the winners.

Prizes were awarded to overall male and female; top male, female and co-ed teams; top military male and female, and squadron participation.

Top male and female military winners were Marine Lance Cpl. Constantine Notte, Marine Corps detachment student and 2nd Lt. Mia Link, 315th Training Squadron student, respectively. Squadron participation was awarded to the 315th TRS for having the largest number of group participants.
