Goodfellow members visited the Lone Star Peak Performance high ropes course April 18, receiving an opportunity to challenge their fear of heights and enhance teamwork skills.

The course included a rock wall climb, catwalk traversing and jumping off a 40-foot pole while focusing on developing three of the four Comprehensive Airmen Fitness pillars: social, mental physical and social.

"What Lone Star Peak Performance does, is it allows participants to challenge themselves physically, mentally and socially," said Art Ortiz, Lone Star Peak Performance lead facilitator. "We use a philosophy, challenge by choice, which allows each individual an opportunity to choose their level of challenge."

The types of challenges presented themselves differently to each individual.

"It was more of a mental thing for me," said Airman 1st Class Callie N. Mitchell, 316th Training Squadron student. "For me I had to take a step back and listen to everyone else, because when you try to step forward and make everything about yourself it throws the team off. None of it was really what I expected, but it ended up being loads of fun."

Comprehensive Airman Fitness is a holistic approach to train resilience to military members, civilians and family members, which encourages positive thinking and helps reduce daily stressors.
