PACE observes Flight Commander Course Published May 5, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Devin Boyer 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Profession of Arms Center of Excellence representatives visited Goodfellow to observe the Flight Commander Course at the Consolidated Learning Center April 21 and 22. The Flight Commander Course is a non-standardized Air Force program designed to help flight commanders understand their duties before entering the position. "We are trying to build continuity in flight commanders through this course," said Maj. Eric W. Stephan, 17th Medical Operations Squadron medical services flight commander. Stephan said that often times, people arrive at a base as a new flight commander without any training in that position. The Flight Commander Course will help them through the transition. PACE, an initiative set forth in 2015 by Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Mark A. Welsh III, serves as a single champion focused on infusing Air Force core values within the Profession of Arms. PACE is visiting bases in Air Education and Training Command and Air Mobility Command that teach existing flight commander courses. "We are observing established flight commander courses to see if we can use all or parts of what we are seeing," said Carol Wall, PACE project manager. PACE will take their observations and make recommendations for a standardized flight commander course to use at 19th Air Force. "The course will contain a professionalism module emphasizing Air Force core values that may potentially spread AETC wide and beyond," said Wall.
