The Air Force Sergeants Association picked Goodfellow's own Tech. Sgt. Andres N. Oliva Jr., 316th Training Squadron military training leader, as the NCO of the Year Division Four.

The award recognizes members and supporters who have accomplished great things in support of Airmen, veterans and their families.

"I was surprised when I won," said Oliva. "That was not expected at all. We also won under 500 chapter award as well."

Oliva's coworkers weren't as surprised.

"Sgt. Oliva winning the award is absolutely no surprise to me," said Oliva's supervisor Tech. Sgt. Christopher Henry IV, 316th TRS military training leader. "I believe it is well deserved, considering how much work and effort he puts into his work, professional organizations and invests in not only his own self-improvement, but his Airmen's and peers'."

AFSA founders Benny McGehee, Lee Thompson, Virgil Perry and Don Ward established the association, and McGehee later became the first president, becoming the first representative of an all-enlisted organization to give testimony for the enlisted force before the House Armed Services Committee.
