GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- September is National Preparedness Month and Goodfellow will host several events throughout the month in recognition.
In 2014, President Barack Obama declared September as National Preparedness Month in his proclamation speech.
“National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to talk with our families, friends and colleagues about the risks in our communities and to practice our responses in all the places we regularly visit,” said Obama. “I encourage all Americans to recognize the importance of preparedness and work together to enhance our national security, resilience and readiness.”
The events are as follows:
Sept. 3, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – San Angelo Emergency Managers and Goodfellow Emergency Managers will set up the Mobile Emergency Operations Center in the Commissary parking lot and distribute preparedness literature to Goodfellow personnel.
Sept. 10, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Children and volunteers will build emergency kits at the Child Development Center.
Sept. 17, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Emergency Management and Red Cross will set up a booth in Base Exchange to show participants local hazards and disaster kits.
Sept. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – A Mobile Emergency Operations Center burger burn will be set up at the Base Exchange parking lot.
