Help conserve Air Force energy Published Oct. 19, 2015 17th Civil Engineer Squadron GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- October is Energy Action Month and everyone has a role in ensuring the Air Force meets its energy goals in order to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace. The momentum of Energy Action Month is astounding. So far, the wing has: • Reduced energy intensity by 19.75 percent from fiscal year 2003 baseline year • Reduced water consumption by 25.98 percent from fiscal year 2007 baseline year • Completed a heating, ventilating and air conditioning retro commissioning project that will reduce energy consumption on nine buildings at Goodfellow • Received a rebate check for an amount of $68,650 for implementing energy saving projects These efforts add up to help increase knowledge about energy efficiency and improve the Air Force’s energy posture. Everyone can each make a difference and it is their responsibility to do so. During daily activities, a person can have an impact on the effort to maximize funds for operational needs and improve mission effectiveness. This can be done by: • Turning off computer monitors at the end of the day and logging off the computer so that it can properly enter energy-saving sleep mode • Monitoring indoor temperature set points to minimize wasted heating or cooling • Reducing idling in vehicles. Thirty minutes of idling burns through one gallon of gas • Each individual can personally impact the Air Force energy vision, by evaluating how they use energy and then finding ways to do it smart During the week of Oct. 19 to 23, Goodfellow will host activities to include: • Distribute Energy Awareness brochures at the Base Gates • Setup an Energy Awareness table at the Base Exchange • Distribute water and energy handouts to School Age children Please visit www.safie.hq.af.mil/energy/ for more information on how to get involved.
