Competitors from around the country participated in the 17th Annual Goodfellow Air Force Base Recreation Camp Car, Boat and Motorcycle Show Oct. 17.

The show featured more than 100 vehicles divided into different years and modified or stock groups.

“Our categories range from 1900 to present,” said Harry F. Gilbert, Recreation Camp director. “So, we’ve got from Model Ts, Model As, ‘55s, Chevrolets, pickups, motorcycles and up to a brand new 2016 Corvette.”

The event is open to one and all according to Gilbert.

“Children to old people,” added Gilbert. “There’s not a certain category because somebody always loves some kind of car, some kind of pickup, so that’s why they come.”

Lt. Col. Ryan J. Vetter, 17th Mission Support Group deputy commander, had a good time at the show.

“It was a great day,” said Vetter. “I had a wonderful time walking up and down the row. There are some awesome cars out there.”

Vetter chose Roger M. Quincy’s 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door hardtop as the commander’s choice.

“I think it’s cool,” said Quincy. “The commander’s choice is just one heck of an honor.”

Quincy also won awards for 1950 to 1959 modified classes for both his Bel Air and his 1957 Chevrolet 3200 long bed pickup.

“This is my favorite show in town,” said Quincy. “If you’re going to do one local show in San Angelo, this is the one to do.”

For those who didn’t make it this year, Gilbert had some advice.

“Show up, it’s a lot of fun,” said Gilbert. “Come out, get your buddies out here, get your wingman out here, get away from the base. Don’t sit in your dorm room, get out here and see what all we have, we have everything for everybody, babies to retirees.”

The next upcoming event at the Recreation Camp is in February as Goodfellow members brave the cold waters of Lake Nasworthy in the Polar Bear Plunge.
