The 17th Force Support Squadron hosted Ghoulfellow, an event to celebrate Halloween, at the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy training pad, Thede Bowling Center and the Event Center Oct. 24.

However, due to the weather all the events were canceled except the Zombie Run, the Haunted House, Glow Bowl and Zombie Prom.

The Zombie Run began in front of the 312th Training Squadron high bay. As the participants stretched, volunteers dressed as zombies spread out across the running track. Each participant had a belt with two flags on it. If the zombies snatched the flags off the participants, the participants were considered ‘caught.’

Behind the Zombie Run, on the Fire Academy training pad, was the Haunted House. The 312th TRS decorated one of their house fire simulators to imitate an insane asylum. The front of the building was cast in an eery green glow with turned over cars lining the pathway that led the participants to the entry door.

“This year it’s been a bigger and a bolder event,” said Staff Sgt. Natasha M. Mattoon, 312th Training Squadron instructor. “The idea is that the participants are coming through the zombie apocalypse and then are looking for a place where they can hide. They see the insane asylum (haunted house) that looks pretty secure. The problem is they don’t know there are still inhabitants inside. I think this has been the creepiest one due to the weather adding a little bit to the gloom factor.”

The participants climbed up multiple floors and faced the many terrors that lurked inside the staged asylum.

“I’m in the electric chair, they turn it on and I laugh evilly,” said Airman Pete Anthony Reyes, 312th Training Squadron student.

The Event Center hosted its own Zombie Prom with a Gross and Grody Buffet that included Zombie Eyeball sandwiches and Pumpkin Puke chip dip, a dance floor and a chance to show off their Halloween costumes.
