SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The San Angelo City Council passed a texting ordinance Jan. 5, which goes into effect Jan. 9.
This ordinance bans the use of wireless communication devices while driving within city limits. The use of GPS and contacting emergency services are still permitted. Using devices permanently installed in the vehicle are also allowed, to include push-to-talk, voice activated and hands free systems.
This is a misdemeanor offense and violators can be fined up to $500.
