Military Saves Campaign begins this week

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  The Military Saves Campaign began with a proclamation signing at the Norma Brown building Feb. 22.

“This is a Department of Defense Initiative, year-long effort in conjunction with a larger nationwide America Saves campaign,” said Susan A. Williams, 17th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Services Flight community readiness consultant. “This initiative is designed to educate service members and their families on the tremendous power of saving and setting financial goals.”

The Airman and Family Readiness Center plans to host a variety of classes with an emphasis on saving money, retirement plans and improving credit scores.

The classes, planned to be held Feb. 22 through Feb. 27, at the A&FRC, Norma Brown building, School Age Programs building and Youth Center. Walk-ins are welcomed, but it is recommended that individuals register before attending any of the classes.

“The comprehensive classes are provided by two military financial counselors working out of the Airman and Family Readiness Center, building 145,” said Williams.

Military Saves encourages military members to pledge to save money to reach a financial goal.

Col. Michael L. Downs, 17th TRW Commander, said he pledged to save for a summer vacation, retirement and Dallas Cowboys tickets.

Resources are available online at www.militarysaves.org. The web site offers guides for saving money and retirement plans.
