San Angelo partners with Goodfellow to repair fire trucks Published July 11, 2016 By Airman 1st Class Randall Moose 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The San Angelo Fire Department brought one of its fire trucks onto Goodfellow for maintenance as part of an agreement between Goodfellow and the City of San Angelo July 8. “This is an honor for us and a great day,” said Col. Terry Hamrick Jr., 17th Training Wing Vice Commander. “We’re signing our 13th partnership agreement between Goodfellow and the local community.” The initiative will allow the San Angelo Fire Department to use Goodfellow’s garage and fire truck maintenance experts. In exchange, the City of San Angelo will provide ambulance services to the base. This will save the City of San Angelo an estimated $45,000 a year and Goodfellow $70,000 a year. Goodfellow has more agreements with its local community than any other Air Force base, said Hamrick. Public-Public and Public-Private partnerships leverage military installation and local community capabilities and resources to reduce operating and service costs in support of the Air Force’s mission. “I think it’s really important that we continue these partnerships and that we look for ways to work with each other and help each other out,” said Daniel Valenzuela, San Angelo city manager. “This is what the P4 initiative really is, partnering up with the local communities. A lot of times we find that as a community we want to do so much for the Air Force base, and what we’re seeing is that the Air Force base does so much more for us.”
