Air Force commissions 8 lieutenants Published May 19, 2015 By Senior Airman Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The Air Force commissioned eight cadets to the rank of second lieutenant during an Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 commissioning ceremony at Angelo State University's C. J. Davidson Conference Center May 15. Chief Master Sgt. Thomas F. Good, 17th Training Wing command chief, provided the guest speech. "As you walk across the stage ... your life will change forever," said Good. "Your life no longer becomes about you and grade point averages, it becomes who you turn around and say 'thank you' to, because you now are going to be given the greatest gift, to affect change." During the ceremony, each graduating cadet had a former or current military officer swear them in, had friends and family members pin their rank to their uniform and received their first salute from a former or current enlisted member. Once each cadet received their new rank, Det. 847 played a slideshow with photos and quotes of advice from the officers. "Make friends, and always remember that you're not doing it alone; your wingmen will always have your back," wrote 2nd Lt. Joshua R. Draper, Air Force ROTC Det. 847 graduate, for the cadets still in the program. "Also, have the mentality that long-term reward is better than short-term convenience. Work hard these few short years in college because the reward later will be worth more than any party now." Lt. Col. Pedro E. Matos, Air Force ROTC Det. 847 Commander, concluded the ceremony by providing the closing remarks. "Thank you for volunteering to serve," said Matos. "You are the future of our military. Today marks the beginning of a challenging and awarding career in the armed services. You should be proud of all your accomplishments up to this point." The Det. 847 commissioned second lieutenants are: Ethan M. Anderson, cyber operations officer Ray T. Chhith, pilot trainee Alex M. Cover, security forces officer Robert G. Crumley, space and missiles operation officer Joshua R. Draper, remotely piloted aircraft pilot Dylan J. Meador, pilot trainee Corrie J. Shafer, space and missiles operation officer Joshua B. Ury, combat systems officer
