Commanders from across the nation train to be a Goodfellow Fire Marshall Published Aug. 5, 2016 By Airman 1st Class Caelynn Ferguson 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Col. Michael Downs, 17th Training Wing Commander, participated in Goodfellow Fire Marshall training along with Civil Engineering Commanders from across the nation Aug. 2 through the 4, at the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy. Downs participated in the course to gain a better understanding of what students in training go through and to meet civil engineer squadron commanders participating in the course. The training included firefighting gear drills, rappelling from a three story building, crawling through confined space trainers in full firefighting ensemble, firefighting vehicle operations and three full duty days of classroom training for key skills and knowledge to become a certified Fire Marshall.
