What I know for sure ... Published June 3, 2010 By Army Lt. Col. Bichson Bush 344th Military Intelligence Battalion commander GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity - Albert Einstein When you believe you can - you can! - Maxwell Maltz As the end of my command tour approaches on June 15, these areas below are what I know for sure: 1. Do the right thing all the time - 24/7. Ensure that your actions are ethical, moral and legal; strive to always be professional with others. The U.S. military is a values-based organization; therefore, internalize and live your service's values, warrior ethos and creed; demonstrate character, integrity and values in all you do. These traits are non-negotiable. 2. Take care of self and others. Recognize opportunities to nurture, strengthen and grow as an individual servicemember and as a family unit. Get fit mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially so you can help your professional and personal families. Never forget your comrades in arms who are deployed and the pain of separation that they and their families are experiencing. Be thankful for the blessings in your life. Never forget that life is precious, fragile and can easily cease at a time beyond your control. 3. Accomplish the mission. As service members or civilians supporting the military, it will always be about mission accomplishment. We wear the uniform to win! In order to successfully accomplish the mission, you must achieve the two areas that I mentioned above, as well as obtain the resources required to successfully accomplish the mission. 4. Have fun. Enjoy what you do. What is your passion in life that is realistic and feasible and what are you doing to achieve it? Your passion is what you are willing to do even if you are not paid for it. (Editor's note: Lt. Col. Bush will relinquish command of the Army's 344th Military Intelligence Battalion to Lt. Col. John Bonin during a change of command ceremony June 15 at 8 a.m. at Fort Concho.)
