Stand your ground on Earth Day

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Earth Day is the largest, secular observance in the world and more than a billion people celebrate it on April 22 each year. U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin founded Earth Day in 1970 to direct public energy away from protesting the oil spills in Santa Barbra, California to an alternative contribution in earth sustainability through proper policy reform and community education.

In light of Earth Day, Goodfellow Air Force Base cordially invites you and your family to become part of a volunteering initiative to preserve our community’s environmental health.

Branch out of your routine and join us on April 17 for a seminar on lawn care from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Alternatively, on April 19 you may attend the rainwater harvesting seminar from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Afterward, bring your family to salute the Troop Walk Tree Planting mission where you can teach your kids to replenish natural resources by giving vitality and natural beauty to our base.

Is Texas heat leaving you with costly food and electric bills? Then start your own garden or in-home ecosystem by learning about native plants in our seminar from Kay Thompson on April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All seminars will be held in the ball room of the Event Center.
It’s your way or the highway if you’re looking to get your family involved with Earth Week by being a part of the mission to Adopt-a-hwy Clean-up on April 18, 20 and 22.
